It occurred to me that these are my last days in Seoul. Soon I'll be going to Suwon. I'll stay there for about a week, since I haven't seen the family since before I went to China. By the time I come back, it'll be just in time to pack and head back to the States. I suppose I could seek out more museums and mountains via the guidebook, but 1) I'm lazy and 2) I often have more fun just wandering aimlessly and seeing where I end up.
Funny thing is, that doesn't work as well as it did. Now when I wander, I always run into something I recognize. That's why there haven't been any new pictures lately - I just haven't been seeing anything new. It's nice, though, to feel like I know the town a bit. I can find my way around and go to my favorite places. I went back to Myeong-dong today, and it was nice enough out that the food vendors, clothing stalls, and street preachers were out in full force.
This is the first time in days that I haven't felt like (and indulged in) sleeping til past noon, so maybe I'm finally over this cold. Wearing scandalously skimpy clothes got me a few stares, but it was worth it not to feel like I was being steamed in denim. I'm feeling as healthy and comfortable as I've been since China.
I'm through my first volume of Sherlock Holmes, and thankfully so because if I had never gotten around to cracking the second volume I would have lugged the brick all the way back and forth for nothing. The first story in the second volume is the one where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle finally resurrects Holmes after sending him over Reichenbach Falls in The Final Problem. I love it because it proves what I have been noticing all along: that Sherlock Holmes is kind of a smart-ass, kind of a drama queen, and kind of a dick. Instead of finding a tactful way to break the news to Watson that he's been faking his death for the last three years, he plays a trick on him and startles him with the revelation. When Watson faints and then freaks right out, Holmes is like, "Well, geez, I didn't think it was such a big deal." This is also why I love these guys.

The count down began officially! Dad is making his "oh-boy-wallfles" this morning. We are missing you very much and cannot wait to get big hugs from you. Last night (the 4th), we - including Tyson - went down to the Harborside for dinner and fireworks. Well, that was our plan. After dinner Tyson got picked up by Ellis. Then dad & I walked the board walk and watched the Blues Fest for 5 minutes. After that we were ready to head home... So, needless to say, we missed the fireworks. Tyson also came home early to get ready for work in the morning. I am meeting Mimi this morning at the MAC to plan your Europe trip!
ReplyDeleteI really should read Sherlock Holmes. I have a young friend who loves the books so much that her license plate says SHERLOCK or HOLMES or something like that. You should read Once and Future King.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hug you!
Mom: You guys went to see fireworks on July 4 and missed the fireworks?! Lame. Haha.
ReplyDeleteEmo: You really should. I'm so happy to have my complete set; I'm tearing through them. I definitely want to read Once and Future King sometime too. Mimi is big into Arthurian legend and I'd like to be able to keep up with her when she tells me about it.
Love you both, and can't wait to be home!
