My "students" took me out for dinner and coffee today. They insisted I try dakbukgi and soondae.
The red stuff is dakbukgi: spicy rice cakes in ramen. It was pretty good. The soondae are the black things on the right, and they were a little scarier. I heard them described somewhere as "blood sausage," which sounds awful. Turns out they're just sausage skin stuffed with black noodles. Very odd, but not too bad.
After getting my butt kicked repeatedly by online flight booking (Orbitz and China Southern Airlines can kiss my half-yellow ass), I finally managed to book a reasonably-priced flight to China. I'm so excited to get to see my girl Kayli next month! Now I just need to get that visa.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I talked to my dad about my recent Joan Baez obsession. Apparently my taste in music is uncool, and not in a "you kids with your rock and roll" way, but in a "I remember when that came out and also when it went out of style" way. I am uncool by the standards of my dad when he was my age. Haha. Ouch. But apparently he was never much into what he dubs "hippie music." I think he was a little more funky. (Oh, great. Now I have Mr. Jones by Counting Crows stuck in my head.)

I'm so glad your up and out. Thanks for the picture of your lovely face to prove your on the mend.
ReplyDeleteYou're COOL in a hippie/nerdy/I'm not following the crowd way--the best way.
I personally enjoy your singing voice much more than Baez. The vibrato is getting to me.
I am glad you are feeling better. I love dakbukgi but without ramen. Soondae - not so much.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone in appreciating hippie generation (dad calls you the hippie chick). Check out Logon's FB. Hippie stuff was going on in Colorado campus.
I mailed you your old cell phone with the Chinese SIM card and some left over money dad brought back from his last trip (don't get excited - I don't think it is worth all that much). Once you get to China, call me with the cell phone (remember to dial +1 followed by my cell number). Which days will you be in China?
Tyson had his surgery yesterday. The doctor said it was the largest tonsils he's seen. Tyson is doing well. He is parked in the pit playing video games non stop:)
xoxo, M
Thanks for sending the phone. I'll be in China June 13-22.
ReplyDeleteCHRIS! Please say hello to Kayli for me! I can't get through to her via FB...FAIL CHINA, simply FAIL. Damn ban.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, SO glad you are all good to go! If you were here in the States I would have brought you some good chicken noodle soup :)
mmmmm...korean foodd..hold on I need to get a napkin to wipe all of my slobber..hahaha. Sundae is alright. My grandma and parents like that much more than I do..dukbuki is the BEST I actually made some the other day :)
Again, glad to know all is well and that your B cells were working fine! haha. Yeah, I know physio. You are SO lucky you missed out on spring physio! Ruben is not a favorite around campus right now..not that hes a bad teacher, but a REALLY hard prof. Glad I got to take it last year with Warrick even though he was horrible.
PS. There is no longer parking space by cordley, there is now a building there (or at least in the process of building one). Its weird, but yeah. Also, have you heard about yogurt extreme? Remind me to take you there. I tried it for the first time today and I immediately thought "OMG CHRISTINA'S BINGE CANDY FOOD!" hahaha.

p.s. I would have still told you a doctor while I bought the chicken noodle soup. hahahaha---you know me!
ReplyDeleteI will give Kayli all the updates. She's also pretty pissed that she can't get on FB, Blogger, YouTube, Twitter... yeah, China kinda sucks that way.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. I'm gonna be so out of practice on bio stuff when I get back in the Fall. But I'm glad I don't have to worry about tough physio this term. :)
Ahhhh! My campus is changing shape and I'm not there to see it? And yes, frozen yogurt when I'm back, for sure.
