I didn't think Korean food could surprise me anymore. Make me extremely reluctant to put it in my mouth, yes, but not surprise me. I thought I'd seen it all and that the rest would just be variations on the norm. Not so much. Breakfast was whole six-inch-long fried fish, which was actually pretty good. That's not the surprising part. The surprise came when Harmuni took a pair of chopsticks, popped the fish's eye out of its socket, and fed it to Eun-hyuk. It wasn't a little fried crunchy thing either; it was a big, gooey eyeball! The kid loved it! I think my jaw hit the table, and I was so sad I didn't have my camera with me.
Speaking of Eun-hyuk, he seems to love this thing called Giga Tribe. It's hilarious. Check this out.
I swear it's like someone tried to combine Voltron, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, and Power Rangers. As far as I can tell, the scary little bear-creatures follow this kid around and transform into the Power Ranger knock-offs in the background. They all correspond to certain colors, except that the orange bear turns into the red Ranger. Don't ask me why. But I've seen at least one picture of the blue bear spitting shards of ice, so apparently they have powers in their Pokemon forms too.
And I think the Power Rangers can then turn into power-ups for this kid. The Blue Ranger is his armor, the Red Ranger is his helmet, and the Yellow Ranger is his sword. I think. This is all speculation, of course, but I know the tropes of shonen manga well enough to be pretty confident in my assessment. Oh, yeah, and I don't know where the Green dude goes when they transform. Apparently he isn't cool enough to be part of the Voltron-armor. Of course, his bear-form kind of looks like a drag queen, so this may be some form of discrimination.
Eun-hyuk is getting better at seizing his chances to pound on my computer keyboard. I used to be able to sneak off and get a solid few minutes in before he found me. Now when I go to my room, he's right on my heels, and he starts pounding as soon as I open my laptop. I actually had to lock the door to get this post written, and he out there banging on the door and screaming right now. Gotta hide the computer before I let him in...
